Harpenden hockey club was out in force on Saturday to acknowledge the lifelong service of former club President Alan Sanders.
Alan made his first appearance for the club in 1949 and since then has been continuously involved as a player captain committee member president and spectator. He still comes to support the club in fair weather and foul.
This season therefore marks the 75th consecutive year of Alan’sccontribution to HHC. So as a gesture of appreciation and to keep him warm and dry on those wintry terraces, the committee treated Alan to an official HHC subs jacket personalised with AS75 on the chest.
Alan succeeded as president by Paul Nash, a smaller than life personality in the club, who himself was succeeded this summer by new president Fraser Tant. Both were there to give their respects to the man who will always be El Presidente.
