Ladies 1 vs Bedford 3

Ladies 1 vs Bedford 3

A late push back today saw us trek up to Bedford who are sitting comfortably mid table and have gained some decent results in recent weeks

I got the scheduling very wrong and my fun bus rocked up half an hour before the meet time but we did enjoy a discussion about our keeper injuring herself the day before by stacking it over a kerb. Luckily she soldiered on to start today.

We started the game a little frantically, we had changed our formation and needed to settle in, but once we had it was game on. Fantastic progress play up our wings caused Bedford all sorts of problems but to their credit , they were hunting in packs and it was hard to break them down. It really was end to end stuff with a lot of argy bargy thrown in for good measure. Some questionable decisions from the umpires frustrated us somewhat but we quickly got the lay of the land and just played to every whistle after that.

Bedford broke the deadlock first with a well worked goal in the first half, but it didn’t deter us and we continued to fight back.

Working together at pace was our strength today and finally it came together to earn us our equaliser in the form of Sophia with a beautiful deflection.

Half time 1-1

There was a bit of faff about the colour of the ball throughout. Umpire wanted one colour, the other 23 people on the pitch wanted another, so we went with the majority at half time and this vital change elevated our game even more. We were hungry for another goal and continually pressed up the pitch in the most aggressive attacking play Coach Bob has seen in his entire coaching career . This tenacity meant we found ourselves watching a fantastically weighted ball sent to Laura in their D. Goalie comes out, takes Laura out, and she doesn’t get up. Uh oh.

Our management team stream onto the pitch, first aid kit in hand to discover with relief, she’s got cramp. Loves a bit of drama does our Laura.

Oh well we think, we’ll get a short out of that. Nope . 16. That set the tone for the rest of the second half.

They got decision after decision, we were told off more than them and it was starting to feel rather unfair. We stamped our feet, Kim let out a warrior cry after their second goal and boy were the rest of us mad.

We channeled everything we could into the final moments, but alas, again another goal evaded us.

Full time Bedford 2 - 1 HHC

We were understandably despondent but Coach Bob gave us some cheer, complimenting the desire, effort and standard of hockey being played. The pizza for teas also went some way to raising the mood . We worked for eachother today and a win feels in very near reach.

Goal: Sophia

Cards: None

Player of the match: Kels

Dunce of the day: Kim for complaining that her “wound” was oozing onto her leggings when half the team are nursing more serious injuries

Teas review: very good Bedford, but you could have let us have more than one slice each.
